How to Pin a Perplexity Space to the Sidebar

Perplexity Spaces let you organize your searches and collections into dedicated folders. By default, each new Space appears in your Spaces list but not in the main sidebar. Pinning a Space to the sidebar gives you one-click access to your most used Spaces without opening the full Spaces menu. When you pin a Space, its name and icon appear directly in the left sidebar alongside your default search mode. This works for both personal Spaces you create and shared Spaces you have joined. The pinning process is identical on the web app and the desktop app for Windows and Mac.

Why Pin a Space to the Perplexity Sidebar

The Perplexity sidebar shows your search modes and pinned Spaces. Without pinning, you must click the Spaces icon in the top toolbar, then select the Space you want to open. This adds two clicks for every session.

Pinning a Space places it directly in the sidebar so you can switch to that Space with one click. This is useful for Spaces you use daily, such as a Work Research Space, a Personal Learning Space, or a Team Project Space. Each pinned Space retains its own search history, collections, and custom instructions.

There is no limit to how many Spaces you can pin. However, the sidebar displays only the first few pinned Spaces before collapsing the rest into a scrollable list. You can reorder pinned Spaces by dragging them up or down in the sidebar.

Steps to Pin a Space to the Sidebar

You can pin a Space using the right-click menu or by dragging it. Both methods work in the Perplexity web app and the desktop app. Follow the method you prefer.

Method 1: Right-Click to Pin

1. Open the Spaces list
   Click the Spaces icon in the top toolbar. It looks like a folder or a grid of squares. The Spaces panel opens on the left side of the screen.
2. Locate the Space to pin
   Scroll through your Spaces list. Each Space shows its name, icon, and the number of collections it contains.
3. Right-click the Space name
   Right-click the Space you want to pin. A context menu appears with several options.
4. Select Pin to Sidebar
   From the context menu, click Pin to Sidebar. The Space immediately appears in the main sidebar below your search modes.

Method 2: Drag and Drop to Pin

1. Open the Spaces list
   Click the Spaces icon in the top toolbar to open the Spaces panel.
2. Grab the Space
   Click and hold the Space you want to pin. A drag icon appears next to the cursor.
3. Drag the Space to the sidebar
   Move the Space into the main sidebar area. You will see a blue line appear where the Space will be placed.
4. Release the mouse button
   Drop the Space in the sidebar. It is now pinned and visible in the sidebar.

How to Unpin a Space From the Sidebar

If you no longer need a Space in the sidebar, you can remove it without deleting the Space itself. The Space remains in your Spaces list with all its content intact.

1. Right-click the pinned Space in the sidebar
   Locate the Space in the left sidebar. Right-click its name or icon.
2. Select Unpin
   From the context menu, click Unpin. The Space disappears from the sidebar but stays in your Spaces list.

Managing Pinned Spaces

After pinning multiple Spaces, you may want to change their order or organize them differently.

Reorder Pinned Spaces

To change the order of pinned Spaces, click and drag a pinned Space up or down in the sidebar. A blue line indicates where the Space will move. Release the mouse to place it in the new position.

Pin a Shared Space

Spaces that other users have shared with you appear in your Spaces list with a shared icon. You can pin them using the same right-click or drag-and-drop methods. Pinning a shared Space works exactly like pinning a personal Space.

Common Issues and Limitations

Space Does Not Appear in Sidebar After Pinning

If you pin a Space but do not see it in the sidebar, refresh the page or restart the desktop app. The sidebar may need a refresh to show the new pinned item. If the issue persists, check that you are using the latest version of Perplexity.

Cannot Drag a Space to the Sidebar

Some browsers or operating systems may block drag-and-drop actions in web apps. If dragging does not work, use the right-click method instead. Right-click the Space name and select Pin to Sidebar.

Pinned Spaces Disappear After Logging Out

Pinned Spaces are tied to your Perplexity account. If you log out and log back in on the same device, your pinned Spaces should reappear. If you log in on a new device, you must pin the Spaces again. Pinning is not synced across devices.
