Perplexity Shared Collection Link Expires: Why and Fix

You shared a Perplexity Collection with a colleague, but the link now shows an error or expired page. This happens because Perplexity sets a default expiration period on shared Collection links for privacy and security reasons. In this article, you will learn why the link expires, how to extend or remove the expiration, and what to do if the link is already expired.

Why Perplexity Collection Links Expire

Perplexity Collections are groups of related searches and answers. When you share a Collection, Perplexity generates a unique URL. By default, this URL expires 7 days after you create it. This expiration is a privacy feature. It prevents old shared links from being accessible indefinitely, especially if you shared sensitive or internal information.

The expiration timer starts the moment you click the Share button and generate the link. Even if no one visits the link, it still expires after the set period. Perplexity does not send a warning when the link is about to expire. The only indication is that the link stops working and displays an error page.

How Expiration Affects Access

When a Collection link expires, anyone who clicks it sees a message that the Collection is no longer available. The owner of the Collection can still access it from their own Perplexity account. The expiration only affects the shared link, not the Collection itself. You can create a new share link at any time.

Default Expiration Period

The default expiration is 7 days. You can change this to 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, or no expiration. If you choose no expiration, the link remains active until you manually revoke it. This is useful for long-term projects or public resources.

Steps to Change or Remove the Expiration on a Collection Link

You must perform these steps while the Collection still exists in your account. If the link has already expired, you can regenerate a new one using the same process.

1. Open the Collection
   Go to your Perplexity account and navigate to the Collections page. Click the Collection that has the shared link you want to modify.
2. Click the Share Button
   In the Collection view, locate the Share button. It is usually at the top right or in the Collection menu. Click it to open the sharing dialog.
3. Adjust the Expiration Setting
   In the sharing dialog, find the dropdown labeled Expires or Link Expiration. Select a new value: 1 Day, 7 Days, 30 Days, or Never.
4. Copy the Updated Link
   After changing the expiration, the link may refresh. Click Copy Link to copy the new URL. If you chose Never, the existing link remains valid and you can copy it again.
5. Send the New Link
   Paste the copied URL into an email, chat, or document. Inform recipients that the link has been updated.

If the Collection Link Is Already Expired

Follow the same steps above. The sharing dialog will show that the link is expired. You can set a new expiration and copy the fresh link. The old link will no longer work, so you must distribute the new one.

If the Collection Link Still Expires After Changing Settings

This can happen if you changed the expiration but did not click Copy Link again. The sharing dialog must generate a new link after you change the setting. Always copy the link after making any changes. If you copied the link before changing the expiration, the old link still has the original expiration date.

Recipients Report the Link Is Dead Immediately

Check if you accidentally set the expiration to 1 Day. Also confirm that you did not revoke the link manually. To revoke a link, go to the sharing dialog and click Revoke Link. If you revoke it, no one can access the Collection through that URL. You must create a new share link.

The Collection Itself Is Missing

If you deleted the Collection, the shared link will not work. Deleted Collections cannot be recovered. You must recreate the Collection and share it again. To avoid this, archive Collections instead of deleting them. Archived Collections remain accessible to you but are hidden from the main list.
