The hidden words feature lets you block replies containing specific terms. You can add words, phrases, emojis, or hashtags. Threads automatically hides any reply that matches your list. The hidden reply is still visible to the person who wrote it but not to other viewers. You can review hidden replies later and manually approve them if needed.

Mention Controls

Mention controls determine who can include your username in their replies. You can allow everyone, only people you follow, or no one. This setting prevents spam accounts from tagging you in promotional or abusive threads. When someone you have blocked tries to mention you, the mention does not appear and the sender receives no notification.

Reply Permissions

Reply permissions restrict who can reply to your posts. The options are everyone, profiles you follow, and profiles you mention. This is a broad filter that stops spam before it appears. How to Adjust Spam Reply Filter Sensitivity in Threads

Follow these steps to configure each filter. You must be logged into your Threads account. The settings are identical on iOS and Android mobile apps. There is no desktop version for these privacy controls.

Step 1: Open Profile Settings

1. Open the Threads app
   Tap your profile icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Reply Permissions Are Set Per Post

The default reply permission applies to all new posts. However, you can change it for an individual post when composing. Tap the reply icon at the bottom of the compose screen and select a different option. This overrides your global setting for that post only.
