How to Remove a Linked Device From Your Threads Account

2026年5月8日 by wisechecker

If you have logged into Threads on a shared computer, a borrowed phone, or a tablet you no longer use, that device remains linked to your account. Each linked device can access your profile and post on your behalf if the session remains active. This article explains how to view and remove linked devices from your Threads account using the mobile app. You will learn the exact steps to revoke access and secure your account from unwanted activity.

Key Takeaways: Removing a Linked Device from Threads

  • Profile > Settings > Account > Linked devices: This is the exact menu path to find all devices with active sessions.
  • Tap Remove next to the device: Instantly revokes that device’s access to your Threads account.
  • You must use the Threads mobile app: The linked devices menu is not available on the web version of Threads.

What Linked Devices Mean for Your Threads Account

A linked device is any phone, tablet, or computer where you have logged into Threads and chosen to stay signed in. Threads stores a session token on that device. As long as the token is valid, the device can access your account without requiring your password again.

You might have linked devices from:

  • A friend’s phone you used to check Threads during an event
  • A work tablet that you no longer use
  • An old phone after you upgraded to a new one
  • A public computer in a library or hotel business center

Leaving these devices linked is a security risk. Anyone with physical access to that device can open Threads and post, send messages, or change your profile. Removing the device from your account invalidates its session token and prevents further access.

Threads does not show the device location or IP address in the linked devices list. You will see the device name and the operating system, such as “John’s iPhone” or “Samsung Galaxy Tab S8.” This is enough to identify which device you want to remove.

Steps to Remove a Linked Device in the Threads App

You must use the Threads mobile app for iOS or Android. The linked devices management page is not available on the web version at threads.net. Follow these steps exactly.

  1. Open the Threads app on your current phone or tablet
Make sure you are logged into the account from which you want to remove the linked device.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen
This opens your profile page where your posts and bio are displayed.
  3. Tap the two horizontal lines icon in the top-right corner
This opens the settings menu. On some versions of Threads, this icon appears as a gear icon.
  4. Tap Settings in the menu that appears
The Settings page lists options for account, privacy, notifications, and more.
  5. Tap Account near the top of the Settings list
This section contains account-specific options including linked devices.
  6. Tap Linked devices
A list of all devices with active sessions on your account appears. Each entry shows the device name and operating system.
  7. Find the device you want to remove and tap Remove next to it
A confirmation dialog appears asking if you are sure you want to remove the device.
  8. Tap Remove again in the confirmation dialog
The device is immediately unlinked. The session token on that device is invalidated. The next time someone opens Threads on that device, they will be prompted to log in again.

Repeat steps 7 and 8 for each device you want to remove. You cannot remove the device you are currently using from this list. If you want to log out of Threads on your current device, use the Log out option in Settings instead.

Common Issues When Removing a Linked Device

The Linked Devices Option Is Grayed Out or Missing

If the Linked devices option appears grayed out or is not visible in the Account section, you might be using an older version of the Threads app. Update the app to the latest version from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. After updating, close and reopen the app, then check again.

I Cannot See a Device I Know Is Still Logged In

Threads only shows devices that have an active session token. If the device has been offline for a long period, the token might have expired automatically. In that case, the device no longer has access and does not appear in the list. You do not need to take any action for expired sessions.

I Removed a Device but It Still Shows in the List

This is usually a display delay. Pull down on the Linked devices screen to refresh the list. If the device still appears after refreshing, force close the Threads app and reopen it. If the problem persists, restart your current device and check again.

I Accidentally Removed My Own Phone

You cannot remove the device you are currently using from the Linked devices list. If you removed a different device that you still own, simply log back into Threads on that device. The device will reappear in the linked devices list after you log in.

Threads Linked Devices vs Instagram Linked Devices

Item Threads Instagram
Where to find the list Settings > Account > Linked devices Settings > Security > Login activity
Web access Not available on web Available on web
Device info shown Device name and OS Device name, OS, location, and IP address
Remove action Tap Remove next to device Tap three dots > Log out
Session expiration Automatic after long inactivity Automatic after long inactivity

Threads does not show location or IP address for linked devices. If you need that level of detail, check your Instagram login activity instead. Threads accounts are tied to Instagram accounts, so logging out of Threads on a device does not log you out of Instagram on the same device.

You can now remove any linked device from your Threads account in under one minute using the mobile app. After removing a device, consider changing your Instagram password as an extra security step. For the best protection, check the Linked devices list once a month and remove any device you do not recognize or no longer use.
