If a restored legal document is still wrong, compare the actual candidate versions and any local conflict copies before changing synchronization settings. The folder’s modified date is not a reliable selector for the approved wording of each document inside it.
Describe the difference precisely
Record the original URL, the expected revision and the clause, schedule or attachment that differs. Ask the matter owner which source establishes the requirement. Preserve the current file before another restoration, even if it appears wrong, because it may contain other relevant material.
Distinguish historical retrieval from preparing a corrected working draft. If different portions require different source versions, the owner should approve the reconciliation and its labeling. Do not describe a new composite document as an unchanged original.
Inspect available document history
Open the file from its owning location and inspect the available candidates. Use dates and editor names to narrow the search, then verify the content. A generic limit of 25 versions does not describe every business library; consult the actual version-history configuration when a candidate is missing.
If the file was renamed, moved or replaced, investigate its original location and identity. An empty history does not by itself prove that the employee edited outside OneDrive. Ask the administrator to check the relevant circumstances and approved recovery sources.
Preserve both sides of a synchronization conflict
- Keep the current cloud version and the authorized local candidate under distinct names in an approved independent location.
- Verify that both copies open and retain their source details.
- Compare the differences with the matter owner, including tracked changes and attachments where applicable.
- Apply only the agreed outcome to the shared document, retaining the candidates until acceptance.
Unlinking and relinking OneDrive does not merge conflicting wording. It should not be the first response while the only copy of a recent revision may be on the device. Let IT diagnose the synchronization issue after the content is preserved.
Escalate protections and access issues separately
If a retention control or access restriction prevents the intended action, involve its owner rather than disabling it. Provide the exact error, target URL and attempted operation. Do not repeat a drive-wide restore merely because one file cannot be replaced.
Finish with the approved version, its provenance, the destination and any unresolved discrepancies. Have the matter owner verify the shared copy. This makes the outcome traceable without claiming that a successful synchronization alone establishes the document’s correctness.
