Threads Active Sessions List: How to Audit Recent Logins

2026年5月8日 by wisechecker

You may need to check which devices and browsers have access to your Threads account. Suspicious login activity or a forgotten logout on a shared computer can expose your private conversations and profile. Threads stores a list of active sessions that shows recent login locations, device types, and timestamps. This article explains how to find the active sessions list in Threads and how to review and remove any unknown or unwanted logins.

Key Takeaways: Auditing Active Sessions in Threads

  • Instagram Settings > Accounts Center > Password and security: Where you find the active sessions list for Threads.
  • Login activity timestamp and device type: Each session shows the date, time, browser or app name, and approximate location.
  • Remove session button: One tap to log out a specific device without affecting other active sessions.

What Is the Active Sessions List in Threads?

Threads does not have its own standalone login manager. It relies on the Instagram Accounts Center because you sign in to Threads using your Instagram account. The active sessions list in the Accounts Center shows every device and browser where your Instagram credentials have been used, including those used to access Threads.

Each session record includes the following details:

  • Device name and operating system — for example, iPhone 15 Pro on iOS 18 or Chrome on Windows 11.
  • Approximate location — city and country based on IP address.
  • Last active time — the date and time the session was last used.
  • Login type — whether the login was through the Threads app, Instagram app, or a web browser.

The list does not differentiate between Threads-only sessions and Instagram sessions. A session marked as Instagram may also have been used to access Threads. You must review all sessions to ensure no unauthorized access exists for either app.

Steps to View and Audit Active Sessions for Threads

Follow these steps to open the active sessions list and check each login record.

  1. Open the Threads app and go to your profile
Tap the profile icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen. This opens your Threads profile page.
  2. Tap the two-line menu icon in the top-right corner
This icon looks like two horizontal lines. Tapping it opens the settings and support menu.
  3. Select the Settings option
In the menu that appears, tap Settings. This opens the app-level settings screen.
  4. Tap the Account option
Under the Settings screen, tap Account. This shows account-related options including linked profiles and data controls.
  5. Tap the Accounts Center link
At the top of the Account screen, you see a link labeled Accounts Center. Tap it. This opens the Instagram Accounts Center where you manage cross-app settings.
  6. Select Password and security
In the Accounts Center, tap Password and security. This section contains login activity, saved passwords, and two-factor authentication options.
  7. Tap Where you are logged in
Under the Login section, tap Where you are logged in. This displays the full list of active sessions for your Instagram account, which includes Threads sessions.
  8. Review each session entry
Scroll through the list. For each session, check the device name, location, and last active time. Look for any session you do not recognize or that shows a location you have never visited.
  9. Remove a suspicious session
Tap the three-dot menu next to a session entry. Then tap Remove. Confirm the removal. This logs out that device immediately and revokes its access to Threads and Instagram.

The session list updates within a few seconds after you remove a session. You can repeat this for any other sessions you want to remove.

Common Issues When Auditing Threads Sessions

Session shows a location I do not recognize

Location data comes from the IP address of the device at login time. A virtual private network or a mobile carrier that routes traffic through a different city can cause a mismatch. If you use a VPN regularly, check the VPN server location against the session location. If you do not use a VPN and the location is in a country you have never visited, remove the session immediately and change your Instagram password.

I cannot find the Accounts Center link in Threads

The Accounts Center link appears only when your Threads account is linked to an Instagram account. If you signed up for Threads with your email or phone number without linking Instagram, you do not have an Accounts Center entry. In that case, you can manage sessions only through the Instagram app or the Instagram website. Log in to Instagram, go to Settings > Accounts Center > Password and security > Where you are logged in.

Sessions I removed reappear later

This usually means the device has saved your credentials and automatically logs back in. To prevent this, change your Instagram password after removing the session. After the password change, any device that tries to re-authenticate will be prompted for the new password. Also check that you do not have any third-party apps with saved login tokens for Instagram.

Threads Active Sessions vs Instagram Active Sessions

Item Threads Active Sessions Instagram Active Sessions
Where to find Accounts Center > Password and security > Where you are logged in Same location — shared list
Session detail Shows device, location, last active time, and login type Same detail — identical entries
Can you remove a session Yes, through the three-dot menu Yes, same process
Does removal affect both apps Yes — removing a session logs you out of both Threads and Instagram on that device Yes — same effect
Separate list for Threads only No — Threads uses the Instagram session list N/A

Because Threads and Instagram share the same authentication system, any session you see in the list may have been used for either app. Always assume a session with the Instagram login type also has Threads access. The only way to fully secure Threads is to audit the entire Instagram session list.

How to Log Out of All Threads Sessions at Once

If you suspect a widespread breach or want to start fresh, you can log out of every active session in one action. This is faster than removing sessions one by one.

  1. Go to the Where you are logged in screen
Follow steps 1 through 7 from the earlier section to reach the full session list.
  2. Tap the Log out of all sessions link
At the top of the session list, you see a link labeled Log out of all sessions. Tap it.
  3. Confirm the logout
A confirmation dialog appears. Tap Log out. This logs out every device and browser that has an active session for your Instagram account, including all Threads sessions.
  4. Change your password immediately
After the mass logout, go back to Password and security and tap Change password. Set a strong password that you have not used on any other site.

After this, you must sign in again on any device where you want to use Threads or Instagram. This ensures that only devices you explicitly authorize can access your account.

You can now audit your Threads active sessions by checking the Instagram Accounts Center session list. Review sessions monthly or after using a shared computer. For an extra layer of security, enable two-factor authentication in the same Password and security section of the Accounts Center. This requires a login code from an authenticator app or SMS each time a new device signs in, blocking unauthorized access even if a password is compromised.
