An app can stop syncing after Advanced Protection is enabled because the program restricts sensitive-data access and does not support app passwords. First identify the blocked operation rather than immediately unenrolling from protection.
Check whether Google sign-in still works
Open a Google service directly in a supported browser and confirm that the account is accessible. A failure confined to one mail client or integration is different from losing access to the entire Google Account.
Record the app, feature, and non-sensitive error. Sign-in, reading Gmail, accessing Drive, and installing an Android app are different actions with different restrictions.
Check the app’s supported authentication
Google says Advanced Protection only allows supported verified third-party apps to access sensitive account data with permission. It also says app passwords are blocked and existing ones are revoked on enrollment.
Ask the app provider whether it supports the account’s current protection requirements. Do not follow instructions to enable legacy password access, share your Google password directly with the app, or generate an app password that the protected account cannot use.
Review the actual permission request
Open the Google Account’s linked-app settings and inspect the connection type and access. A basic Sign in with Google relationship is not identical to permission to read Gmail or manage Drive files.
If reconnection is supported, review the requested permissions before approving. Repeatedly removing and restoring the same blocked connection will not change the protection policy.
Separate Apps Script and Android restrictions
Google’s FAQ says Apps Script can be used, but scripts requesting certain account data may be blocked. Do not describe every script as forbidden or every script as compatible.
On Android, Advanced Protection also limits installations from many outside sources. Use the approved app and distribution route rather than treating sideloading as a repair for a data-access failure.
Choose a supported alternative
Use a supported Google app or provider integration for the affected task. In an organization, ask the administrator to review the policy and business requirement.
If considering leaving Advanced Protection, assess the protection and access consequences deliberately through Google’s official settings. Unenrolling should not be the automatic first step for an app error.
