Set Working Hours in an Eligible Google Calendar Account

Working hours in Google Calendar tell collaborators when you normally work. This feature requires an appropriate work or school account and organizational availability. It is a recurring weekly preference, not a booking page and not an automatic confirmation that you are free throughout those hours.

Check account availability

Use Calendar on a computer in the intended work or school account. Google’s guidance says an administrator may not have enabled working hours when the option is absent. Ask about the organizational setting rather than assuming a personal account has the same controls.

Set the weekly pattern

Open Settings > Settings. Under General, choose Working hours or Working hours & location when that combined section is enabled. Select Enable working hours, then choose the days and hours you work.

Each period’s start must precede its end. Review Google’s suggested hours instead of accepting them automatically: suggestions can reflect the time zone, country work patterns, and existing schedule rather than your actual employment arrangement.

Verify the scheduling context

Inspect the saved days and times and check how collaborators interpret them when arranging a meeting. Review the current time zone and working location, since Google’s guidance describes local-time adjustments when those change. Existing events can still occupy time within working hours. For a temporary change, maintain the appropriate current pattern and restore it when normal hours resume; the documented working-hours model is weekly. Use an out-of-office event when its absence and decline behavior is actually required. The completed setup should communicate your normal pattern without implying that every period inside it is an available appointment.
