Remove or Clear Google Meet Annotations Without Editing the Source File

Google Meet provides separate controls for stopping new annotations and removing existing marks. Choose the action that matches your goal: ending the drawing activity may leave earlier markup visible. Keep this presentation layer separate from revisions that participants need in the original document after the meeting.

Stop adding marks

As an eligible presenter or appointed co-annotator, open the annotation controls and use Stop annotating when the drawing task is complete. This is the documented way to leave annotation mode. Look at the shared presentation afterward rather than assuming every mark disappeared. Tell participants whether you are returning to ordinary presentation or moving on to another document.

Erase or clear existing annotations

Use Erase to remove existing annotations selectively, or Clear all when the whole annotation surface should be cleared. Before clearing material the group still needs, agree on where the decisions or requested revisions will be recorded. Google’s tools also include disappearing ink, which serves a different purpose from a lasting text box or shape during the discussion.

Check the source document separately

Ask a viewer to confirm that the intended marks are gone and that the underlying content is readable. If a correction belongs in the file itself, open the source through its normal editing workflow and make an authorized revision there. Do not report that the document was corrected solely because meeting annotations were removed. Likewise, stopping or clearing annotations is not the same as stopping the presentation; the shared screen can remain visible. When the discussion ends, use Stop presenting separately and confirm the share ends before opening unrelated information. Maintain clear notes about actual file changes when the meeting’s temporary markup informed a decision.
