Check Eligibility and Language Support for Translated Meet Captions

Translated captions and ordinary Google Meet live captions have different availability rules. Before promising translation for a meeting, verify the account’s eligible edition and the actual language choices. A working caption button alone shows neither that translation is licensed nor that the required language pair is available to your meeting.

Check the current edition requirement

Google’s translated-caption guidance lists Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Google AI Pro for Education among eligible editions. Confirm the current entitlement with your Workspace administrator and the linked official help. The same help page retains an Enterprise Starter entry with a June 2025 end date; do not treat that expired entry as a current entitlement.

Check both languages in the controls

In a computer meeting, open More options, Settings, and Captions. If translated captions are offered, inspect both Translate from and Translate to. Google’s language list includes a rollout warning, and some languages are beta. A language appearing in a help-page list does not guarantee it has reached every account or produces the quality your meeting requires.

Test the required conversation before the event

Use a short sample with the intended source language, destination language, and subject vocabulary. Check names, dates, and technical terms with someone who understands the speech. If the option is missing or the sample is unreliable, arrange an agreed accessible alternative before inviting participants who depend on it. Translation does not replace clarification of a consequential instruction. Ordinary captions may still help with the spoken language, but they should not be advertised as the translation service that was requested.
