End a Google Meet Meeting for Everyone Instead of Only Leaving

Leaving Google Meet and ending the meeting for everyone are different actions. If a moderated session must close when the host finishes, use the explicit end-for-all control. Simply closing your own tab does not communicate that decision or reliably remove the remaining participants.

Confirm hosting controls are enabled

Google requires Host Management for End meeting for all. Check your host or co-host role before the session ends. Warn participants when you are ready to close, and allow time for any agreed final messages or file links. If another host is continuing the discussion, coordinate a handoff instead of ending their session.

Select the correct departure action

At the bottom of the meeting, click Leave call. In the window that appears, choose End meeting for all. Choose Leave meeting only when you intend to depart personally while others continue. Read the confirmation rather than relying on the location of a familiar button. The end-for-all action automatically removes participants, avoiding the need to eject each person separately.

Understand the link and breakout consequences

Ending the meeting also ends open breakout rooms. Google warns that, with many rooms, the main room can end first and other rooms may take a few minutes to close. The meeting link itself is not deleted: participants can open it, but cannot rejoin until the host restarts the meeting by returning. Google recommends creating a new meeting for a different group because previous participants can join a restarted meeting. Do not treat ending a call as revoking access to recordings, notes, or files already shared. Those artifacts retain their own permissions and need a separate access review when required.
