Change Event Visibility in Google Calendar on Android

Event visibility in Google Calendar on Android works alongside the calendar’s sharing permissions. A Private label is not the same as removing all access from powerful calendar managers. Review the actual calendar audience before adding sensitive material to event details.

Open the visibility control

In the app, open the intended event and tap Edit. In its details, select Visibility settings when available. Google’s Android event guidance says visibility controls may be absent when the calendar is not shared.

Choose the intended setting

Select Default visibility, Private, or Public and save. Default follows the calendar’s sharing model. Public can expose this event’s details to people who can view the calendar, even where ordinary calendar access is availability-only. It does not independently give every internet user access to a restricted calendar.

Private hides details from ordinary viewers but allows access under stronger detail-editing and management permissions. Guests and resource bookings can also expose some metadata through their own calendar context.

Verify scope and effective access

Reopen the event and review an appropriate viewer context where needed. For a recurring series, Google’s visibility guidance says all occurrences share one visibility setting; attempting a narrower visibility change applies to the whole series. Do not assume the ordinary edit-scope prompt makes visibility occurrence-specific. Check attachments separately, since file permissions are another access layer. The completed change should identify the event or series and its effective audience rather than presenting one mobile label as proof that no administrator, delegate, guest, or resource viewer can find any information about the meeting.
