Add Start and End Times to a Google Calendar Task

A Google Calendar task can have a planned start and end time. This creates a work interval distinct from the date by which the task must be completed. Google’s current guidance says recurring tasks cannot have an end time, so inspect recurrence before expecting a duration control.

Open the intended task

On a computer, select the task and choose Edit task. Confirm its title and task list. For an existing task without a timed interval, Google’s guidance describes using Add time to convert it into a task with a start and end time.

Set the planned interval

Beside Start date, choose the start and end time, then save. Check both dates when the interval crosses midnight. Leave the deadline as a separate field when the expected completion date differs from the time reserved to work.

Review Advanced settings for availability and visibility. A timed task can have sharing behavior that differs from a simple date-only task, so do not assume every task remains invisible to calendar collaborators.

Verify the saved block

Reopen the task and confirm its interval in the calendar’s local-time context. Check whether the duration reflects the work you actually intend to reserve rather than the entire period until the deadline. Inspect shared-calendar implications before adding a sensitive title or description. If an end time is unavailable, check whether the task repeats instead of repeatedly recreating it. A planned block is not evidence that the work was completed or that all incoming meetings will be declined. Those are separate states and controls that need their own review.
