Google Slides recording is not available to every account. Google’s current help limits the feature to certain work or school accounts and requires Chrome or Edge for recording. Check eligibility and the actual interface before promising another presenter that a recording button will be available.
Check account and editing access
Open the intended presentation with the account that will create the recording. For the Slides recording workflow, Google requires edit access and available Drive storage. A viewer who can present the deck is not necessarily entitled to create a recording of it.
Identify the recording workflow
The official guidance describes both a Slides recording interface using Rec > Record new video and a Google Vids route using Record > Record video. Inspect the option actually shown for the account instead of merging their labels into one assumed universal interface.
For the Slides recording workflow, Google’s help specifies a 30-minute limit per recording. Do not apply that limit automatically to every other video product or assume the feature is unlimited.
Verify prerequisites before a long take
Check the intended microphone and camera settings, then make a short test through the available workflow. Confirm where it saves and whether it plays correctly. Google notes that recording information is not available in Revision History for the Slides recording feature, so do not rely on ordinary deck history as a recording log. If eligibility or policy prevents recording, use an approved alternative rather than purchasing or enabling another service without checking the organization’s requirements.
