Use Supported Headset Call Controls with Google Meet

Compatible headset buttons can synchronize muting with Google Meet, but hearing meeting audio through a headset does not automatically enable its call controls. Google’s integration supports Chromium-based browsers; Bluetooth call controls additionally require ChromeOS. Confirm that combination before troubleshooting a button that does nothing.

Connect the intended device

Connect the USB device, or pair the Bluetooth headset before configuring call control. In the meeting, open More, Settings, and the Audio section. Choose Call Control, then + Connect device. Select the intended available device and choose Connect. Complete the browser’s device-selection prompt when it appears rather than assuming the first selection finished authorization.

Verify buttons and audio separately

Press the headset’s mute control and watch Meet’s microphone state. If the device provides a compatible LED, check whether it matches the current mute state. Then unmute deliberately and confirm a brief spoken exchange. Use Meet’s speaker test and microphone activity bar to check the audio path independently. Working buttons do not establish that the correct microphone is selected.

Repair only the relevant connection

If control integration fails on a supported setup, inspect Meet’s site-information panel for the device permission. Google documents removing permission for a specific USB or Bluetooth device and connecting it again. For Bluetooth, disconnecting and reconnecting the intended device in computer settings is another targeted check. Prefer a Meet-certified headset or microphone; other devices may behave differently. Keep the onscreen microphone button available as a fallback while investigating. Do not interpret unsupported Bluetooth call controls on a non-ChromeOS computer as proof that the headset cannot carry ordinary meeting audio.
