Use an Approved Add-on Inside a Google Meet Meeting

A Google Meet add-on can place a collaboration activity inside the meeting, but it is a separate application with its own permissions and availability. Use an organization-approved add-on rather than installing a suggested tool automatically. A Marketplace listing does not mean that Google developed the third-party application.

Check eligibility and permissions

Google lists restrictions involving administrator blocks, unsigned-in users, Family Link accounts, viewer roles, age requirements, client-side encrypted meetings, and live-stream attendance. Some add-ons also do not support every platform. Confirm that the intended participants can use the activity before making it essential to the session.

Open the approved activity

In a computer meeting, open Tools and choose the approved add-on. If installation is necessary, inspect its publisher, requested access, and any separate service terms before continuing. Use the same Google Account used for the meeting. Follow the add-on’s own activity instructions and review any file-access request instead of granting broad sharing by habit.

Check the participant experience

The host can control whether contributors start shared add-on activities. Other participants may need to install the add-on or authenticate separately to interact. If authorized observers cannot join the activity, Google’s guidance offers screen sharing as a way to let them watch; this does not give them interactive application access. Google also says only one add-on activity can be collaborative at a time. End or leave the activity deliberately when finished. If organization policy blocks it, request an approved alternative rather than changing browser privacy settings for every website or asking guests to bypass their administrator.
