Stop a Google Meet Transcript While the Conversation Continues

Stopping a Google Meet transcript ends that text capture while the conversation can continue. Use an explicit stop before a segment that should not be included. The transcript tool does not have a pause function, so restarting creates another file.

Stop through the transcription controls

As an authorized host or participant, open Meeting tools, then Transcribing, and choose Stop transcription. Google also documents a Stop transcribing control. Confirm Stop in the pop-up. Check that the active transcription status has ended before continuing. With Host Management enabled, the host and co-hosts control transcription; an ordinary attendee should ask them to act.

Review other active meeting records

Stopping transcription is separate from stopping video recording or Take notes for me. Inspect the other capture indicators and coordinate with the person managing them. Tell attendees which features actually stopped rather than calling the entire meeting unrecorded based only on one switch. A transcript stop does not remove text already captured or alter access to a document generated from an earlier segment.

Expect separate files after a restart

If the group later agrees to resume transcription, use Start transcription again and check the active indicator. Google generates a separate transcript file each time it starts, so preserve the sequence when reviewing the meeting afterward. Do not describe a set of interrupted files as one continuous transcript without explaining the gaps. Transcription also stops automatically when everyone leaves, but that does not help when the conversation continues after a planned stop. After processing, locate the appropriate files in the organizer’s meeting folder and verify that only the intended segments were captured and shared with the agreed audience.
