Use a Google Passkey on Another Device With a QR Code: What You Need

2026年10月29日 by wisechecker

You can use a Google passkey on your phone to sign in on a compatible computer without creating a passkey on that computer. Use only the QR code generated by the legitimate Google sign-in you started.

Check what you need

  • A compatible computer and supported browser.
  • A phone holding an available passkey for the intended Google Account.
  • The phone’s screen lock and the required Bluetooth capability enabled.
  • Access to the phone and its legitimate unlock method.

Keep the phone nearby and follow the connection requirements shown by the browser. A screenshot of a QR code sent by someone else is not a safe substitute for your own sign-in session.

Start the cross-device sign-in

  1. Open Google’s sign-in page on the computer.
  2. Enter the correct username.
  3. If necessary, choose Try another way → Use your passkey.
  4. Scan the QR code shown on that computer with your phone.
  5. On the phone, confirm the passkey sign-in and unlock using the device’s normal method.
  6. Check that the intended account opens on the computer.

The exact operating-system wording can vary. If the flow asks where to save a new passkey, review that separately; using a phone’s existing passkey is different from deciding to create a credential on a borrowed computer.

Inspect the result

Confirm the full account address and expected data after sign-in. If the computer is not yours, use an appropriate temporary browser session and sign out when finished.

Do not approve a notification merely because a matching-looking number or QR image appears in a message. The request must correspond to the Google sign-in you initiated on the computer in front of you.

If the passkey is not offered

Check the phone’s passkey list, account identity, screen lock, supported environment, and any new-method trust period. Use another established method when offered rather than deleting credentials or removing protection.

Managed accounts can have different passwordless-sign-in policies. Ask the administrator if the same device works for your personal account but the organization requires another step.
