You can stop a Google Meet recording while participants remain in the call. This is useful when a recorded presentation is followed by an unrecorded discussion. Stopping recording is separate from leaving the meeting or ending it for everyone.
Use the recording panel’s stop control
As an authorized recorder on a computer, open Meeting tools and Recording. Choose Stop recording, then confirm Stop recording in the pop-up. Google notifies participants when capture stops. Check the recording indicator or panel before beginning the next discussion; closing the panel without selecting Stop does not stop the recording.
Check other capture features separately
Recording, transcription, and AI note-taking have their own controls. Ending the video recording does not establish that every other capture feature is off. Review any active transcript or note-taking indicator and ask the responsible host to stop those features too if the next segment should not be captured that way. Tell participants clearly which features have stopped, using the actual displayed status as the check.
Let the recording finish processing
The call can continue after recording stops. The saved recording may take time to become available, and saved captions can become playable later than the video. Google sends a link to the organizer and the person who started recording and stores the file in the organizer’s Drive. Do not start another recording simply because the first email has not arrived yet; first establish whether a second recorded segment is intended. Recording also stops automatically when everyone leaves, but that is not a substitute for an explicit stop before an ongoing private discussion. Confirm the saved segment later before sharing it as the complete presentation.
