Choose the Correct Spoken Language for a Google Meet Transcript

A Google Meet transcript needs the language of the actual speech. A wrong meeting-record language can produce unusable text even when the microphone works. The supported transcript language list is narrower than the live-caption list, so check transcription support before relying on a multilingual session.

Match the record language to the speaker

Google currently lists English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish for transcripts. Before capture, have the host review the language in the meeting-record settings. Google’s administrator guidance says automatic transcripts follow the host’s selected Meet recording language. Choose the language being spoken, rather than a preferred reading language or a browser interface language.

Use available language correction controls

When Take notes for me is also available, its Settings panel includes Meeting language. Google says a language change there also changes Ask Gemini and active meeting records. For eligible meetings, Meet can detect a mismatch and show a prompt after sustained speech in another supported language. Choose Change language when the detected language is correct, or Ignore when it is not. This availability depends on the supported meeting and plan.

Check the result and preserve the boundary

Google’s language-detection announcement says correcting the language restarts generation of meeting artifacts. Do not promise that an earlier incorrect segment will be retroactively repaired. Review the resulting transcript around the change and identify any gap or unusable section. The note-taking guidance also says an in-meeting language correction does not update future or recurring meetings. Check the setting again next time. If the expected language control is absent, ask the organizer or administrator for the supported route; personal live-caption settings alone are not proof that saved transcription has been corrected.
