Calendar-level default notifications in Google Calendar can provide a consistent starting point for new events. Use the settings of the specific calendar rather than assuming one account-wide change rewrites every event and every calendar. Individual event settings can differ from the default.
Select the relevant calendar
On a computer, open Settings > Settings. Under Settings for my calendars, choose the calendar to adjust. Confirm its identity before editing a reminder policy used by a project, family, or personal schedule.
Review default event notifications
In the calendar’s settings, inspect Event notifications. Add, change, or remove the desired notification or email lead times through the available controls. Review the separate all-day notification section when date-based entries need another treatment.
Google’s guidance says calendar-level defaults determine notifications for new events unless an event has its own customization. Do not promise a retrospective rewrite of every older appointment.
Verify a new event and exceptions
Create or inspect an appropriate new event and check its actual reminder list. Compare an existing event with custom reminders so you understand the distinction. Your notification settings remain personal; another collaborator’s access to the same calendar does not give them identical reminders. Check the browser or mobile delivery channel separately when a notification matters. A useful default reduces repeated editing, but the final review still needs to establish the reminder behavior of the specific appointment and device you will rely on. Record the calendar and chosen default so future event checks have a meaningful reference.
