Google Calendar’s Modify event permission lets invited guests change event details. Grant it deliberately when people need to maintain the meeting together. It is broader than allowing a guest to accept an invitation or propose another time, and it should not be enabled merely to solve a missing RSVP.
Review the editing requirement
Open the event on a computer and choose Edit event. Identify which changes guests genuinely need to make, such as adjusting the time, adding a room, or attaching material. Check the existing guest list before changing a permission that can affect the whole invited audience.
Set the guest permission
Under Guest permissions, check Modify event when shared editing is appropriate, then save. Google’s creation guidance describes this option and warns that guests can manage the event’s details.
Keep event-level editing distinct from calendar-level access. Granting a guest this permission for one meeting is not the same as giving them general rights to edit every event on your calendar.
Verify scope and coordination
Reopen the event and confirm the setting. Agree on how time, guest, or resource changes will be coordinated so multiple editors do not create contradictory arrangements. Review updates and room acceptance after a significant change. If a guest only needs to suggest another time, use the proposal workflow instead of broadening editing without a reason. The permission should support a clear maintenance responsibility while keeping the event’s information and audience appropriate for everyone able to change it. Confirm the final permission indicator.
