Help me write can draft a Gmail message or refine text already in a compose window. Treat its output as a proposed message that you must review, rather than an instruction to send whatever the assistant produces.
Start with a specific, bounded request
In an eligible Gmail account on a computer, open Compose, a reply, or an existing draft. Use the prompt bar or Help me write control. Describe the recipient, purpose, necessary facts, and desired tone. For example, ask for a short request to move a meeting and supply the actual dates you can offer.
Separate facts you know from details the assistant must not invent. If an amount, deadline, or attachment matters, state it explicitly or identify the source message. Avoid adding confidential context that is unnecessary for the task.
Read the generated draft as a new document
Check names, dates, amounts, commitments, recipients, and the requested action. Help me write can use contextual information from other emails and Drive files to personalize a response. Review Sources where available to understand which information contributed.
Do not assume that a statement about an attachment means the attachment has been added. Likewise, a generated promise to refund, approve, or deliver something is not evidence that you have authority to make that promise.
Refine and send only after review
Use a follow-up instruction or the available refinement choices, such as making the message shorter or more formal. Compare the revision with your required facts; shortening can remove a condition or change a refusal into something less definite. Undo or edit directly when necessary.
Before sending, inspect the final Gmail compose window, including To, Cc, Bcc, subject, links, and attachments. Generating text is separate from sending an email. If the output remains unreliable, write the important sentence yourself and use the assistant only for a limited wording change. Report inaccurate or unsafe suggestions without including sensitive information in feedback.
