To silence one Gmail account while keeping another audible, change that account’s email notification settings inside Gmail. Turning off Gmail notifications in the phone’s system settings can silence every account in the app.
Select the address before changing alerts
Open Gmail’s account menu and read the full address. Then open Settings and the notification options associated with that account. On Android, choose the account and Email notifications, then select None to stop that account’s email alerts.
On iPhone, review Email notifications in Gmail’s Notifications settings for the relevant account and select the offered off or none level. Google’s instructions emphasize that multiple accounts need to be configured separately.
Decide whether to remove sound or all alerts
If you still want banners or notification-center entries, keep email notifications on and choose no sound where supported. That is different from disabling the account’s notifications entirely. Android notification channels may provide additional sound controls.
Chat, Spaces, and Meet alerts can have separate settings. Silencing email for an account does not necessarily silence every communication feature visible inside Gmail.
Confirm the other account still works
Have one new message arrive in each account. Check that both mailboxes update and that only the intended account produces the chosen alert. Keep the operating system’s overall Gmail permission enabled if the other account needs it.
Do not turn off Sync Gmail or remove the account merely to make it quiet. Those changes affect access and updating, while an alert preference should change only interruptions. If a manufacturer groups notification channels in an unexpected way, inspect the channel attached to a recent alert and test again. For work profiles, ask the administrator about enforced settings. Record the desired distinction clearly: no sound, no lock-screen content, or no alerts for this account are three different outcomes.
