Google Workspace Quarantine Is Holding Valid Mail: Review and Release It Safely

2026年10月29日 by wisechecker

A legitimate message held in Workspace quarantine needs review by an authorized quarantine reviewer. Quarantine is different from the user’s Spam folder, and releasing one message is different from changing the rule for future mail.

Find the message and the triggering rule

Collect the sender, recipient, time, and Message-ID through an approved channel. An administrator can use the available delivery logs and quarantine tools to identify the message and the setting that held it.

Check the actual quarantine, reviewer permissions, and whether several rules or quarantine destinations are involved. An end user may not have access to the administrative queue even if they can search every folder in their own Gmail.

Review safety and authorization before release

Verify the business context, sender identity, recipients, and the reason for the match. A familiar display name is not enough to approve an attachment or sensitive outgoing message. Follow the organization’s incident or data-protection procedure where necessary.

If release is appropriate, use the supported quarantine action so the message is delivered to its original recipient. Do not forward a downloaded copy to a personal account or ask someone to remove the security control globally.

Verify delivery and handle recurrence separately

Confirm the released message reaches the intended mailbox and record the action. If the rule produced a false match, propose a limited correction with test examples and a rollback plan. Releasing one item does not necessarily exempt future messages.

Google documents a maximum quarantine period of 30 days after sending, after which messages are automatically and permanently deleted from quarantine. Eligible data retained in a separate system such as Vault has its own conditions and is not a direct quarantine restore. Act promptly without treating urgency as permission to release unknown content. Keep the review record private and avoid bulk-release operations on unreviewed messages.
