Gmail’s Message clipped notice means the reading view is showing only part of a message. Use the View entire message control to inspect the rest of an expected email. This is different from three dots that hide quoted history inside a reply, and it is not a delivery-failure notice.
Open the complete message deliberately
- Check that you recognize the sender and expected the email.
- Use Gmail’s View entire message link beside the clipping notice, rather than a similarly worded link designed into the sender’s content.
- Review the expanded message, including its ending, before replying or acting on an instruction.
Opening the full view does not make the message safe. Continue to treat unexpected attachments, payment requests, and sign-in links cautiously. Do not click through merely because a hidden footer might contain a security warning.
Understand why a short-looking email can be large
The rendered text is only part of an HTML email’s size. Styling, repeated markup, tracking links, and quoted content can add substantial code. Mailchimp’s own guidance describes Gmail clipping large campaign messages and identifies roughly 102 KB as its practical threshold. Treat that as the vendor’s guidance, not a universal Gmail attachment limit.
A small image displayed from a remote URL and a large amount of hidden HTML affect different things. Deleting attachments from your mailbox is not a general remedy for a newsletter’s oversized markup.
Give the sender a useful report
If important content is repeatedly hidden, tell the sender which email was clipped and which Gmail view you used. Campaign authors should simplify and test their sent HTML, reduce unnecessary repeated content, and verify the final message rather than only the editor preview.
As the recipient, you cannot permanently rewrite the sender’s campaign template through a Gmail preference. Keep the complete message available when checking deadlines or unsubscribe information. If the expanded view still lacks promised information, ask the verified sender for a corrected copy instead of assuming the missing part can be recovered by clearing local app data.
