AI Inbox and Priority Inbox solve different organization problems. AI Inbox generates to-dos and topic summaries from selected messages. Priority Inbox divides your ordinary mailbox into configurable sections using categories such as importance and unread status.
Choose the view that matches your workflow
If you want sections for unread or important mail and a predictable place for the remaining messages, inspect Gmail’s normal inbox-layout settings. Priority Inbox is an inbox type; it is not simply another name for the AI Inbox navigation item.
If you want generated suggestions about what to do or catch up on, inspect AI Inbox’s eligibility and source limits. Its current guide describes an English, United States beta for eligible plans. That requirement should not be applied automatically to ordinary Priority Inbox.
Understand what each view can miss
A message’s importance classification is not a verified deadline or proof that the sender’s request is legitimate. In Priority Inbox, review how sections are configured and where other messages remain visible.
AI Inbox has a different limitation: it currently selects Primary-tab content and excludes specified kinds of messages and attachments. A missing task there does not mean that the corresponding email is unimportant or absent from your account.
Compare with the same real messages
Use a few messages you already know: one unread request, one completed discussion, and one message in another category. Inspect where each appears and which actions affect the original email. Avoid marking everything read merely to make the test view look tidy.
Switch layout choices only after understanding the available controls in your account. Neither view requires deleting messages or changing other users’ settings. Keep a standard search route available for locating a specific source, and verify important obligations in the actual conversation rather than trusting either an importance marker or an AI-generated task.
