Choose Public Holidays and Other Observances in Google Calendar

Google Calendar distinguishes public holidays from other observances within regional holiday calendars. Choose the categories relevant to your schedule rather than assuming every displayed observance is a legally recognized day off. Calendar’s holiday data is a convenience source, not an employment or legal determination.

Open regional holiday settings

On a computer, choose Settings > Settings > Add calendar > Browse calendars of interest. Under Regional holidays, find the holiday calendar to which you subscribe. Check the country or region before changing its displayed categories.

Select the relevant categories

Open the dropdown beside the preferred holiday calendar and review Public holidays and Other observances. Google’s guidance describes choosing the holidays you want to show. Select the intended categories rather than deleting ordinary events that happen to share a date.

Individual holiday details cannot be edited through this workflow. Use the appropriate category or individual hide option instead of trying to rewrite the provider’s event description.

Verify dates and practical meaning

Return to the calendar and inspect representative dates. Google’s help says public-holiday and national-observance information comes from a third-party specialist and is updated regularly. For payroll, business closures, filing deadlines, or local entitlement questions, consult the relevant official authority or employer policy separately. Keep the holiday calendar visible only when it supports your review, and inspect other regional calendars for duplicate-looking entries. The completed preference should display the intended category of dates without implying that every observance creates the same legal obligation or closes every institution in a country.
