Change Google Slides Animation Speed

Animation speed in Google Slides affects how quickly an object effect plays. It is separate from the setting that decides when the effect starts. Adjust speed when the movement feels abrupt or distractingly slow, while keeping the speaker’s explanation and the audience’s reading time in view.

Select the correct effect

Open the presentation on a computer and use the animation or Motion panel. Select the object effect whose speed needs adjustment. If the slide contains several effects, check the corresponding object rather than changing whichever entry happens to be open.

Adjust the speed slider

Google’s animation guidance describes a slider for changing speed. Move it moderately and use Play to inspect the result. Review the start option separately: a faster animation does not change an on-click effect into an automatic one.

If effects run together, compare their durations. If one starts after another, consider the combined time required before the audience sees the final information.

Rehearse with the narration

Run the slideshow and speak through the relevant section at a natural pace. Check whether viewers have time to recognize the revealed object without waiting unnecessarily for decorative motion. Avoid using speed to compensate for an overly complicated sequence; simplifying the effects may be the clearer solution. Test in the intended browser, since Google’s help warns that some animations may behave differently in some browsers. The correct speed is the one that supports comprehension in the actual delivery context, not merely the one that looks impressive in a short editor preview.
