A slide transition controls the visual change into a Google Slides slide. It differs from an object animation inside that slide. Use a restrained transition when it helps distinguish sections, and avoid assuming that more motion makes a presentation easier to follow.
Select the destination slide
On a computer, click the slide you want to transition to in the filmstrip. Google’s guidance frames the transition around the slide being entered. Check the neighboring slides so the visual change occurs at the intended point in the talk.
Choose the transition
Open Slide > Transition. Under Slide Transition, choose the desired effect from the menu. Review the speed and any nearby object animations as separate controls. A transition does not automatically establish the order in which text or images appear on the slide.
Use a clear convention for section boundaries if the deck uses different transition treatments. Random variation can create an impression of structural importance where none exists.
Preview in sequence
Use Play, then rehearse from the preceding slide. Check whether the motion interrupts a spoken transition or delays important information. Test the browser used for delivery because some effects may not work identically everywhere. Review the deck’s content without motion as well, particularly if it will become a handout. A successful transition should support navigation between complete explanations; it should not conceal a missing connection between the ideas or substitute for a clear section heading and a coherent spoken introduction. Check section headings after any later reordering of the deck.
