Google Meet’s Ask for help control alerts the host without requiring you to abandon a breakout discussion immediately. It is useful when the group needs clarification or assistance. The host receives a request to visit; selecting the control does not instantly bring them into the room.
Send the breakout help request
On a computer, use Ask for help at the top right of the breakout screen. On a mobile device, open the menu at the bottom right and select Ask for help. If the problem is resolved before the host arrives, choose Cancel ask for help. Avoid leaving an unnecessary request active while the host is assisting several rooms.
Understand what the host receives
Google shows the host a notification with options to join the requesting room or deal with it later. The breakout panel also displays an Asked for help banner above rooms with requests. Continue any work that can proceed while waiting. When the host arrives, briefly explain the issue and the decision you need. The host cannot see room chat from before their arrival or after departure, so do not rely on earlier chat alone to supply context.
Use the supported fallback when necessary
Dial-in users cannot use Ask for help. Agree in advance that another room member will request assistance for a telephone participant, or use an approved main-room contact method. A participant on a computer or mobile device can also return to the main call using the displayed control when appropriate. Before leaving, tell the group so an unexplained disappearance is not mistaken for a connection failure. Confirm that the host understood the request and whether follow-up is needed; the disappearance of a notification alone does not establish that the underlying problem was solved.
