Room check-in associates your Google Meet Companion connection with a conference room already participating in the meeting. It helps remote attendees see who is sharing that room. Check-in is a meeting display association; it does not replace the room’s audio connection or prove where a person physically is.
Check in when the prompt appears
Join the meeting in Companion mode on your laptop. In the joining popup, select Check-in. If more than one room is available, choose Choose your room, locate the room you occupy, and select its check-in control. Read the room name carefully rather than picking the first similar building or floor name.
Find the control after joining
If you dismissed the popup, click the meeting name at the bottom left of the Companion screen. In the dialog, choose Check-in. Google says the option requires an eligible conference room device in the meeting. If that device joins later, a check-in prompt can appear then. Account, organization, and room-device settings can also determine whether the option is offered.
Verify the association and its lifetime
After checking in, inspect the participant list or room tile to confirm your name appears with the intended room. Tell the organizer if the wrong room appears. Your check-in is tied to the Companion session, so leaving Companion mode ends that association. Moving through a breakout session may require checking in again in the breakout and again on return to the main room. If check-in is unavailable, explain your room location through the agreed meeting channel and continue using the actual room audio. Do not repeatedly join extra connections merely to force a check-in prompt.
