Move a Google Meet Companion Check-In to the Correct Room

A Google Meet Companion check-in can show the wrong room if you selected a similar room name or moved during the meeting. Correct that association so remote participants can identify your location accurately. Changing check-in does not move the conference room’s hardware connection or change which microphone carries your voice.

Open your current room association

In Companion mode on your laptop, select the meeting name at the bottom left. Inspect the room information in the dialog before making a change. If you are still in the correct room but the room hardware is absent from the meeting, investigate that separate connection with the room organizer rather than choosing another room to make a label appear.

Select the room you now occupy

Choose Check in to a different room, then select the correct participating conference room. Compare the full room name with the physical room signage or booking information. If you are leaving the room without moving into another participating room, use Check out of your room instead. The new association should reflect your actual meeting arrangement.

Confirm the visible result

Check the participant list or ask a remote colleague to confirm the room tile now shows your name under the intended room. Google explains that room check-in is not independently verified, so correcting your own selection matters. If you leave Companion mode, the check-in ends with that session. Breakout transitions can also require another check-in. When you physically leave the conference room and need to speak through your laptop, switch to an appropriate normal meeting connection; a room label alone cannot restore personal audio. Coordinate the audio handover before leaving the room’s listening range.
