A Bluetooth headset playing music successfully does not establish that its microphone and meeting audio work in Google Meet. Google notes that some Bluetooth headsets perform poorly with Meet despite working for ordinary audio calls. Test input and output separately so a playback success does not conceal a microphone problem.
Check the connection and selections
Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the computer and that the intended headset is connected. In Meet, open Settings and Audio. Read both the microphone and speaker selections; Meet may be using the headset for listening while retaining the laptop’s built-in microphone. Select the intended devices explicitly instead of relying only on the operating system’s connected-device label.
Test each direction
Run Meet’s speaker test and listen through the headset. Speak while watching the microphone activity bar. If playback works but the bar does not move, check the headset mute control and microphone permission. If the bar moves but you hear nothing, focus on the output selection and volume. Ask a colleague to confirm a brief spoken exchange after both local checks respond.
Compare a practical alternative
If the same headset continues to fail, compare a known working wired headset or another approved audio device in the same meeting. Follow the manufacturer’s approved firmware-update process when appropriate. Record whether the failure concerns listening, speaking, or the headset’s buttons. These are different capabilities: Google’s Bluetooth call-control integration is limited to ChromeOS and Chromium-based browsers, so an unsupported mute button does not establish that Bluetooth audio itself is unsupported. Keep a working fallback ready for the current conversation and investigate compatibility afterward without repeatedly disrupting other participants or resetting unrelated computer settings.
