Check Google Meet Transcript Eligibility Before a Session

Google Meet transcripts create a saved text record of spoken discussion. Availability depends on the organizer’s supported edition, the account’s settings, the participant’s role, and storage capacity. Seeing live captions does not prove that saved transcription is available.

Check the account and supported language

Compare the organizer’s actual edition with Google’s current transcript eligibility list. The published list includes specified Business, Enterprise, Education, and Individual editions rather than every account. Check the spoken language too: the current transcript article lists English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. A language offered for personal live captions is not automatically supported for saved transcripts.

Arrange a person allowed to start it

When Host Management is on, only the host and co-hosts can turn on transcription. When it is off, people in the host’s domain can start it. On the intended computer, inspect Meeting tools for Transcribe before the important discussion begins. Google also documents Android support, but the desktop path provides a clear preparation route. Ask the administrator about account restrictions when the option is unavailable.

Check storage and the capture notice

Transcripts need space in both the organization’s Drive and the host’s Drive. Google says transcript settings are normally enabled except for Education student licenses, but this default is not an entitlement for an unsupported edition. An administrator may also require explicit consent for capture features. Explain that a saved transcript contains spoken words and has its own sharing rules. Agree who will start and stop it, and verify the visible transcript indicator during the meeting. If transcription is scheduled to start automatically, it still depends on an eligible host or co-host joining on the web.
