Use a Google Meet Waiting Room When the Feature Is Available

A Google Meet waiting room holds participants outside the main conversation until admission. It can help a host separate interviews or other sensitive appointments. Use this workflow only when the feature appears for the meeting, and review its automatic admission behavior before relying on the queue for privacy.

Enable the waiting-room option

On a computer, open the intended event’s Meet Video call options. In the Waiting room tab, turn on Waiting room. Review Bring in automatically, which brings waiting people into the call when the host joins. Save the video-call options and the event. This is a meeting access setting; it does not create separate private breakout conversations.

Coordinate every host’s arrival

Google documents that a co-host joining starts the meeting and moves everyone into it. Tell appointed co-hosts about this behavior before a confidential series of appointments. Even invited guests can be held in the waiting-room queue, so being on the invitation does not mean someone is already listening. Participants there can still see basic meeting information and calendar attachments; choose those attachments with the full invited audience in mind.

Inspect the queue after joining

Click People to open the panel fully and look under In the waiting room. Use individual Bring in controls when guests must enter separately. The host can also send a one-way chat message to the waiting room, but participants there cannot reply. Provide a separate contact route if they need assistance. Before starting the sensitive conversation, confirm who appears under In the meeting and whether the remaining guests are still queued. If the feature is unavailable, arrange another approved admission process instead of assuming an ordinary knock behaves exactly like a waiting room.
