Send a Video Tab’s Sound to Google Meet Participants

To send a video’s sound through Google Meet, share its Chrome tab and check the tab-audio option. Playing the video through your room speakers and hoping the microphone captures it creates a less controlled audio path. Test a short permitted sample before the part of the meeting that depends on it.

Prepare the video tab

Open the video in a separate Chrome tab and pause it at the intended starting point. Check that the page, clip, and player volume are appropriate for the audience. Join the meeting normally when you also need microphone and speaker audio. Clicking Present from the pre-join screen instead uses Companion mode, whose meeting microphone and speaker are unavailable.

Enable the tab’s shared audio

Click Present now, choose A tab, and select the video tab. Check Also share tab audio before choosing Share. Google says tab audio is shared by default in this workflow, but inspecting the current choice avoids relying on a remembered setting. Start a short sample and ask a participant whether both picture and sound arrive.

Check the correct audio path

If the audience sees video but hears nothing, inspect the tab-audio choice, the player state, and its volume before changing microphone permissions. Meet noise cancellation does not affect audio captured by screen sharing, so toggling it is not a direct repair for missing tab audio. Use headphones to reduce feedback when discussing the clip. If you switch to another tab, verify that the new source and its audio are shared. Stop presenting when the clip is finished and confirm sharing ends before using that tab for unrelated media.
