A disabled presentation control in Google Meet can be a meeting restriction rather than a broken sharing picker. Google identifies administrator settings and host controls as possible reasons screen sharing is unavailable. Establish whether you are allowed to present before changing browser or computer permissions.
Inspect the control and message
Find Present now in the meeting’s bottom controls. Note whether it is missing, disabled, or opens a picker that later fails. Read any explanatory message. Those observations distinguish a meeting-level restriction from a source-selection or operating-system permission problem. Confirm you joined the correct meeting with the intended account.
Ask the host to check presentation permission
Tell the host that your screen-sharing control is unavailable and ask them to review the meeting’s Host Management and screen-sharing controls. The host should decide whether presentation is appropriate for this discussion. A participant cannot remove the organizer’s restriction by repeatedly rejoining or selecting another browser. An organizational administrator may also control the capability independently of the host.
Use an approved alternative
If presentation is intentionally restricted, offer the relevant material through the meeting’s agreed file or communication channel, checking access before sharing. Another authorized presenter can demonstrate approved content when appropriate. If the host confirms sharing is allowed but the picker still fails, move to browser, window-availability, and device-permission checks. Record the exact stage that fails so support can follow the right path. Verify any authorized permission change by opening the picker and sharing a harmless prepared source. Do not announce success solely because the control becomes clickable; another participant should confirm that the intended content actually appears and updates.
