Google Calendar can show notifications outside the browser window or alerts inside the Calendar interface. Choose the route that fits how you work, then verify its browser permission. A desktop notification setting does not guarantee a reminder when Calendar is not open in the required context.
Choose the notification type
On a computer, open Settings > Settings. Under General, choose Notification settings and inspect the Notifications dropdown. Select the desktop notification or in-Calendar alert behavior offered by the interface.
Check the related permissions
When the browser asks whether calendar.google.com can show notifications, review and allow that specific permission when desired. Google’s guidance says the browser must support notifications and Calendar should remain open for the documented desktop route.
Keep this display choice separate from an individual event’s notification time and from email messages about event changes. Selecting desktop notifications does not create a reminder for every event regardless of its own settings.
Verify a representative reminder
Use a harmless event with a suitable near-future reminder and inspect the actual result in the working browser and operating-system context. Check visual visibility and sound according to your needs. Do not grant notification permission to every website merely to repair one calendar reminder. If an expected reminder is absent, investigate the event, calendar, browser, and system layers separately. The completed check should establish the specific tested reminder path rather than promise that every device and application will alert identically. Keep the test event easy to identify afterward.
