Create a Presentation with the Google Slides API

The Google Slides API can create a blank presentation with a title. This is a file-creation operation, not a complete deck-generation workflow. Plan separately how slides, shapes, text, permissions, and final visual review will be handled before an integration creates files for real users.

Prepare authorization and input

Use the appropriate authenticated Slides API client and a scope accepted by the method. Validate the presentation title and identify the user context that should own or access the resulting file. Keep credentials in the application’s approved secret handling rather than embedding them in code examples.

Create and retain the result

Call presentations.create with a presentation resource containing the intended title. Google’s presentation-management guide shows this operation and returns the new presentationId. Store that returned identifier for subsequent operations instead of deriving identity from a potentially repeated title.

If the network result is uncertain, reconcile the outcome before blindly sending another create request. An ambiguous client error can otherwise lead an application to create duplicate files.

Verify before populating or sharing

Read the created presentation through the authorized client and open it in the editor when appropriate. Confirm the title, account context, and file identity. Add content using the supported update requests, then review the resulting slides visually. Sharing is a separate Drive-related concern and should be configured only for the intended audience. A successful create response establishes a new presentation resource; it does not prove that the deck contains useful content, follows an approved template, or is ready for publication.
