Google Slides API authorization should match the files and operations an integration actually needs. A broad Drive scope is not the default solution to every access problem. Review the Slides-specific scope list and the OAuth consent requirements before connecting the application to real user presentations.
Define the required access
List whether the app needs to read presentations, create or modify them, or import data from Sheets. Google’s scope guidance identifies presentations.readonly for reading presentations and presentations for broader presentation operations. The exact method’s authorization requirements still need checking.
Prefer the narrowest suitable scope
The Slides documentation recommends https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file when suitable because it limits access to files used with the app and is classified as non-sensitive. Do not describe that as access to every file in a user’s Drive. Wider Drive scopes have different sensitivity and verification requirements.
Configure the OAuth consent screen and describe the requested access accurately. Additional APIs, such as chart access through Sheets, can require their own appropriate scope.
Verify with a limited test
Use an authorized test account and a disposable presentation to confirm the intended method and file access. Check the consent prompt and ensure the application does not request unrelated permissions. Keep credentials and tokens out of article examples and logs. A scope grants a category of authorization; it does not replace file permissions or organizational policy. Record the actual tested scope-method combination rather than claiming that one successful call proves every presentation operation is available.
