An explicit object ID lets a Slides API request create a slide and refer to it in later requests in the same batch. This is useful for a controlled creation workflow. It is not a guarantee that the ID will remain unchanged after arbitrary manual editing in the Slides interface.
Choose a valid unique ID
Google’s overview requires object IDs to be unique within the presentation, between five and fifty characters, and to use the documented character rules. Choose a valid identifier such as section_slide_01 rather than relying on default object names that may change.
Create the slide in the intended position
Send a createSlide request through presentations.batchUpdate. Specify the object ID, the insertion index when required, and an appropriate layout reference. Check the existing slide sequence before choosing the insertion point.
Subsequent requests in the same batch can reference the newly created slide ID when adding its elements. Read the returned reply and verify that the created object matches the intended identifier.
Plan for later editing
Google warns that manual interface operations, such as copying an element and deleting its original, can change object IDs. Do not build long-term content discovery around an assumption of permanent identity. Retrieve the current presentation and identify the intended objects using the documented approach, such as relevant text or alt text. Open the final slide to inspect layout and position. A valid ID supports request coordination; it does not verify the slide’s content or make the presentation immune to concurrent edits.
