An external microphone or camera can improve a Google Slides recording when the computer’s built-in device is unsuitable. Configure the specific recording input instead of assuming the device used by another meeting application is also selected in Slides. Eligibility and supported-browser requirements remain unchanged.
Prepare the device
Connect and set up the external microphone or camera using the normal computer workflow. Confirm that the operating system recognizes it. Google gives examples such as USB cameras and wireless earbuds, but the actual device must be available to the recording interface.
Select it in the studio
Open the eligible presentation in Chrome or Edge and choose Rec > Record new video. In the recording studio’s bottom toolbar, open Settings. Choose the intended available camera or microphone from the device lists.
Review only the permissions needed for the chosen recording. Google’s guidance says camera and microphone access are not required merely to start recording, so do not describe both as mandatory when the intended capture does not use them.
Test the actual recording
Create a short sample and inspect the saved result for clear sound, correct framing, and the intended input. Check for a muted microphone, an unwanted background, or a different camera than expected. Selecting a device in a dropdown is not equivalent to verifying its recorded output. Repeat the relevant test after reconnecting equipment or changing browser settings. Keep confidential background audio and visual material out of the capture area, and share only the checked recording with the intended audience.
