Transition speed in Google Slides determines how quickly the visual change between slides occurs. Adjust it when the effect feels too abrupt or slows the talk unnecessarily. This is different from the interval used for automatic slide advance, which controls how long a slide remains on screen.
Open the slide transition
On a computer, select the relevant slide in the filmstrip and choose Slide > Transition. Confirm the transition effect before changing its speed. If the issue concerns an object appearing inside the slide, inspect object animations instead.
Adjust the transition speed
Use the speed slider under the transition controls described in Google’s help. Preview the change with Play. Make one adjustment at a time so you can compare the effect with the original behavior.
Keep related section transitions consistent unless there is a clear reason for an exception. A long transition repeated throughout a large deck can add substantial unnecessary delay.
Verify during a rehearsal
Run the presentation from before the changed slide and speak through the transition naturally. Check that the audience receives the next title promptly and that the effect does not distract from the point. Test the intended browser and presentation controls. If the talk still moves too quickly, changing transition speed may be the wrong solution; the slide dwell time or the narration may need adjustment. Treat visual effect duration, object animation timing, and automatic slide advance as separate settings with different roles in the presentation. Retest after changing the chosen transition effect.
