Gmail Layout Images or Buttons Do Not Display for Recipients: Check Compatibility

2026年11月4日 by wisechecker

An email layout can display differently in the recipient’s email client from the Gmail editor. Diagnose whether the problem affects the message’s HTML, an image, a button destination, or the recipient’s image-display settings before changing the design.

Compare a controlled received copy

Send an authorized test to an address you control and inspect it in the affected client. Compare it with the final Gmail compose version. Note the client, device, and whether the issue appears with all images or only one asset.

Google explicitly warns that some Outlook versions use Word’s HTML rendering, which can alter layout appearance. A design that works in Gmail is therefore not proof that it will render identically everywhere.

Check essential content and destinations

Confirm that the layout contains the intended image and that the final button links were updated. Distinguish a missing button image from a button whose text is visible but whose link points to the wrong place.

Use meaningful text and image alternatives so the message remains understandable when remote images are blocked. Do not tell recipients to disable phishing protections or permanently load every external image just to read the campaign. Avoid changing private Drive files to public access as an unexamined repair.

Simplify and retest the editor version

Use the layout’s Edit control to adjust the affected section, then insert or update the intended message through the supported workflow. Reduce elaborate arrangements that depend on a particular client rendering them precisely.

Test the revised message with images both visible and unavailable where practical. Confirm that the text still identifies the sender, purpose, and safe action. Keep the campaign paused until the actual received copy is usable. Repeatedly resending the full contact list is not a diagnostic test and can create duplicate messages while the rendering problem remains unresolved.
