If Gmail offline cannot be enabled, check browser eligibility, available local storage, and organization policy separately. Repeated sign-ins or changes to the account password will not create an offline feature in an unsupported environment.
Confirm the supported browsing mode
Use desktop Chrome in a normal window. Gmail offline is unavailable in Chrome Incognito and Guest modes. Other browsers supporting online Gmail do not automatically support Google’s offline-mail feature.
Check the exact Google Account and browser profile. The offline setting belongs to that local setup. A mailbox that worked offline on an old laptop will not already be downloaded on a replacement computer.
Check policy and local storage
For Workspace accounts, ask the administrator whether offline Gmail is enabled for your organizational unit or group. Do not move work mail into a personal account or unmanaged profile to get around a restriction.
Inspect device free space and Gmail’s reported storage requirement. Google notes that the storage available to Chrome can be less than the free space on the computer. Browser settings or cleanup tools that remove site data on exit can also prevent offline mail from remaining available.
Change only the setting you can justify
If permitted, reduce the number of days stored or the attachments included, then let the initial synchronization finish online. Check a small sample before depending on it without a connection. Do not solve a quota issue by deleting server messages you need to retain.
If privacy settings intentionally clear data, decide whether keeping local email is appropriate on that device before changing them. Avoid disabling cookie protections for every website. Record the unavailable control or error, Chrome version, account type, and storage information for support. On a shared computer, remaining online-only may be safer than retaining a local copy of confidential mail.
