Gmail Signature Is Missing From Replies: Check the Reply Default and Quoted Text

2026年10月28日 by wisechecker

If your signature appears in a new Gmail message but seems absent from replies, first check the reply default and the conversation’s trimmed content. Repeatedly pasting the footer can create a duplicate when the apparently missing copy is already present.

Check the reply default in the correct account

In computer Gmail, open Settings → See all settings and find Signature under General. Confirm that a saved signature is selected for replies or forwards, not only for new messages. Save any change, then start a fresh test reply.

For a Send mail as setup, also check the From address used in that reply. A different sending identity can have a different signature choice. Compare the actual address rather than relying on the account’s profile picture.

Look for content hidden in the conversation

Google explains that signatures can be hidden below the message body behind the three-dot control. Open Show trimmed content in the sent message and inspect the full reply before concluding that the footer was omitted.

Distinguish your newly added signature from a signature quoted from an earlier message. The old copy in the conversation does not establish what your latest reply contained. A short test reply to yourself is easier to inspect than a long thread with several repeated closings.

Isolate a mobile-only difference

If the behavior occurs only in the Gmail app, inspect that app’s signature setting for the relevant account. Android and iPhone use different controls; the computer’s settings path is not the mobile procedure. Google’s fallback guidance specifically describes new messages when a mobile signature has not been created, so do not assume it guarantees every reply’s presentation.

Compare one newly composed message and one reply from each affected interface. Keep the test free of confidential content. Once the source of the difference is clear, correct that setting rather than removing all saved signatures or editing an already-sent conversation in an attempt to change what the recipient received.
