Create a child’s Google Account through Google’s child-account and parental-consent process. Use the child’s real birthday and the applicable age rules for your country, rather than creating an adult identity to avoid supervision or reusing a parent’s personal account.
Check which setup you need
If the child already has a Google Account, review the separate process for adding supervision. Creating a new account can leave their existing mail and other data in the original account; it is not an automatic conversion or merge.
Check Family Link availability and device compatibility in Google’s current requirements. A parent may manage settings from a supported iPhone, for example, without Family Link providing full device supervision of the child’s iPhone. School-managed Education accounts are also separate from a personal supervised account.
Create the account with parental consent
- Use Google’s account-creation page or the child-account option in Family Link.
- Choose the setup for a child when offered.
- Enter the child’s accurate details and the requested account information.
- Sign in with your own parent account to provide consent through the available method.
- Review the privacy information and supervision settings, then complete the setup.
Instructions vary by region and device. Google’s guide directs some EU families with children aged 13–15 to the new-Android-device setup route instead of the usual Family Link creation sequence. Follow the route applicable to your family.
Check whether Gmail was actually created
Some supported Pixel Tablet setups for young children can create an account without a functional Gmail address and password. An automatically generated account identifier is not necessarily a usable email inbox. If Gmail is needed, use Google’s supported upgrade process to add it.
Verify the result together
Confirm the child’s account in Family Link and check the services and device controls you intended to configure. Explain the settings with the child and review them as needs change. Do not delete an existing Gmail address on the assumption that the same name can be recreated under supervision. If a setup step fails, preserve the current account and use the applicable official help rather than entering a false age.
