Deleting a search in Google My Activity and removing a visited page from browser history are different operations. Before deleting anything, identify where the record appears: your Google Account’s activity page, the browser’s History page, or a service such as YouTube or Maps.
Identify the record you want to remove
My Activity contains supported activity saved to the selected Google Account. A browser history entry records a page visit in that browser, with synchronization affecting where copies may appear. The two can describe the same visit without being the same stored item.
For example, deleting a Google search from My Activity does not guarantee that the browser forgets visiting the results page. Removing a browser entry does not necessarily remove the related search activity from your Google Account. History is also different from cookies, saved passwords, downloaded files, and open tabs.
Use the narrowest deletion control
- Account activity: Open
myactivity.google.com, confirm the account, find the item, and use its delete control. Filter by date and product if you need to locate several related items. - Browser history: Open the browser’s History page and remove the relevant visits. Read any synchronization notice to understand which other devices may be affected.
- Other product records: Use that product’s history controls if the information is not shown in My Activity.
If using Chrome’s broader deletion dialog, review the selected time range and data types. Do not select passwords, cookies, or other categories simply because you want to remove one visited page. Deleting a download-history entry also differs from deleting the downloaded file itself.
Check both places without overclaiming the result
Reopen the relevant account and browser history views to confirm that the chosen entry is no longer visible. An offline device may still show an older view until it reconnects. Deletion begins Google’s removal process; it is not a promise that every legal or security-related record disappears immediately.
Pausing future activity saving is a separate decision. It does not automatically remove old records, and private browsing does not erase activity saved while you use a signed-in Google service. Decide separately whether you need to remove an existing entry, change future saving, or do both.
