A conflicting Google account can occur when you created a personal Google Account with a work email address and the organization later created a managed Google identity using that same address. The matching email text does not make them one account: their data and management can be separate.
Identify which identity contains the data
If a sign-in screen offers a personal account and an organizational account, choose deliberately. Check a known file or service after signing in. An apparently empty Drive or different settings may mean you selected the other identity rather than that data was deleted.
Keep a record of which choice opens your personal data and which opens company services. Avoid making changes while repeatedly switching between accounts without checking the active identity.
Understand the administrator’s role
The organization controls its managed account and the services assigned to it. That does not mean that every piece of data in an earlier personal account has automatically moved into the organization.
Ask the administrator which account should be used for work and what process the organization expects for existing unmanaged accounts. Do not transfer personal data into organizational ownership merely to remove a confusing prompt.
Review a requested account change before accepting
Google or the organization may present steps to resolve the conflict. Read whether the action changes a sign-in address, transfers management, or affects access to services. These actions have different consequences.
Before agreeing, identify any personal purchases, recovery methods, external sign-ins, and files associated with the personal identity. Preserve necessary information using supported methods and organizational policy. A new label on the account is not proof that every dependency has been updated.
Do not delete an account as a diagnostic test
Deleting either identity can remove the very data you are trying to locate. First confirm which account contains the missing item and whether you have the required access. If you cannot sign in to the managed identity, use the administrator’s support route; if it is the personal identity, use Google’s personal recovery flow.
When requesting help, describe the two choices shown and the service affected. Redact personal information from screenshots and never include passwords or one-time codes.
